Sreevatsa Farm
Sreevatsa organic farm is situated in K.K. Chavady on the foothills of Western Ghats about 5 to 8 kms from NH47.
Coconut, mango, guavas, bananas, tamarind, greens, fooder for cows and few vegetables are grown in the farm itself.
We rear cows and the milk is sold as ‘Sreevatsa cow’s milk’ at our outlet. Teak trees are grown all along the border of the farm.
The products grown are marketed at our outlet, Sreevatsa organic farm products;
Sreevatsa organic farm products is the Corporate Social Responsibilty [CSR] of Sreevatsa real estate as the establishment charges are met by the company;
Organic Coconut Trees:
About 100 coconut trees are cultivated in the farm. Coconut trees are manured with 50kg of farm yard manure and 1kg of neem cake manure for each coconut tree. During rainy season, 1 litre cow’s urine and 1 litre panchagavya are poured around the trees for natural urea and mineral contents.
Saw dust is covered under the trees for water conservation.
Coffee plants, banana trees, fodder for cattle and other varieties of plants are grown as intercrop under the coconut trees.
Organic coconuts are sold at our outlet at the same price prevailing in the open market. Organic coconut oil are packed in 200 ml, 500ml, and 1litre containers. Coconut oil is extracted from the coconuts, which are dried under the sun, at our farm, to retain its natural content.
Organic Banana Trees:
About 50 banana tubes are planted every month to get a continued supply to the outlets; bananas trees are manured with farm yard manure only.
Organic Mango and Guava Trees:
550 mango trees are intercropped with 500 guava trees;
Farm yard manure along with neem cake is the only manure, we use for all these trees during monsoon.
Panchagavya and CPP are sprayed whenever the flowering of trees begins.
Mangoes and guavas are sold at our organic outlets at the same cost as in the open market. We follow the organic farming techniques that retain the natural taste and nutrient of the mangoes and guavas. The mangoes are naturally ripened without using any artificial methods (such as placing calcium carbide) etc.
The mangoes are processed into jam, juice and squash that are sold in our outlet. The unsold and damaged mangoes in our outlet are made into a good and natural hormone booster for mango trees called ‘pazha gaady’, a mixture of fruits and cow’s urine which is sprayed for the mango trees before it flowers. The results are very high when it is used along with water.
Organic Vegetables:
A minimum quantity of organic vegetables, which is sufficient for selling in our outlet, is grown in the farm. Herbal extracts are prepared at the farm and are used alternatively with Panchagavya to control the pest attack. Vermicompost is used for manuring the plants.
Vegetables and greens grown are marketed at the outlets at a reasonable cost.
Cattle Rearing:
Cows are reared at the farm. Calves born are reared in the farm itself to get a continued supply of milk.The older cows are allowed to graze naturally at the farm which gives sufficient cow dung for preparation of manure. We do not sell the cows under any circumstances, and maintain it as a ‘ghoshaala’.
Cows are not treated with any antibiotics and instead panchagavya is given internally in the mornings as a regular dosage, before they are allowed to graze. Doctor visits the farm only for pregnancy test, vaccinations and during labour.
Cow’s milk are packed in sachets of 500ml in qty immediately after milking, and are chilled in our farm before transporting to the outlets;
Tamarind Trees:
There are about 10 tamarind trees, which yield a very good quantity of tamarind which are marketed at our outlet. panchagavya is sprayed to the trees to get good quality tamarind when they starts flowering.
